The Symbian^3 Family

Finally! The N8 gets new family members.

First the C7-00. This baby is my current favorite in the monoblock segment. Although it doesn’t beat the N8 on specs – heck, nothing beats the N8 on specs! – but I’m loving the design. It’s just so sleek and stylish. At 10mm, it’s one hell of a slim touchscreen phone. The display on it is real glass, there’s metal used all over it, and the screen is just brilliant. Full capacitive 3.5” nHD AMOLED display, 8GB internal memory (+ microSD card slot under the battery – supports up to 32GB), Penta Band WCDMA, Quad Band GSM/EDGE, in addition to HSDPA (10.2 Mbps) and HSUPA (2 Mbps).

There’s Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP support, 3.5mm audio jack, FM transmitter, GPS, and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n. Dual-touch is also there just like on the N8, meaning you can pinch open and pinch close to zoom in or out on pictures (and wherever’s that applicable, too), a boosted speaker around the back, and an 8 megapixel full-focus camera with dual LED flash (and up to 10x digital zoom). It shoots and plays back 720p HD video, while the camera supports geo-tagging, red eye reduction and face detection.

With a 1200mAh battery, it will give you up to 5+ hours of talk time over 3G and 9+ hours over 2G, and a stand-by time of around 25 days.

On to the E7-00. Oh that’s a beauty! I used to call the N900 “black pearl” but this, this… it’s just a beautiful piece of tech. You asked for a communicator, you got one! It’s been a long wait since the E90.

Think of it as an N8 with a keyboard and a bigger screen. 4 inches of AMOLED goodness, 16GB internal memory, HDMI connectivity, 4 rows of 11 large keys (except for the last row with the spacebar in the middle), 8 megapixel camera as capable as its sibling’s (the C7 above), all crammed in a 13.5mm anodized aluminum body. Same colors of the N8 apply.

And do I have to mention that it has the same connectivity options (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, FM transmitter…) as well as a compass, A-GPS, FM RDS radio, and boosted speaker… Dolby Digital Plus HD video playback, 25fps HD video recording… it’s got it all. I think you’ll have a hard time deciding. You know what? I’ll let the comparative table do the talking and you the readers do the judging!
